Rustic Wool Sport, Worsted, Super Bulky

A 100% wool yarn blend of Rambouillet, Corriedale and Columbia wool from sheep raised in Colorado. The fibers are worsted spun into a single-ply yarn that is surprisingly strong, yet still lofty. The fibers have a micron count of 22-24 making it soft to the touch, and yet it retains its artisanal nature, emphasized by our hand dyeing technique.  Our sport and worsted wools are great for felting – we suggest hand washing only for non-felted items. All colorways are available in our Rustic sport and worsted weight yarns. Super Bulky is currently only available in our Ombré range and is the only hand dyed Gradient Super Bulky available on the market today! Lush and so very soft, it’s perfect for warm winter hats and chunky oversized cowls and scarves.

Rustic Merino Fingering and Lace

With so many reasons to love our Merino Fingering yarn, it’s hard to know where to start. First-off, the fiber: this is our first single-ply fingering yarn, and our first yarn in a luscious, lovely 100% merino. With a micron count of 21.5, it has an against-the-skin softness for neckwear and perfectly complements our single-ply worsted and sport offerings.

Then there’s the feel-good manufacturing: this is a mulesing-free merino, grown and spun in the United States to our particular specifications. Though exceptional stitch-definition has long been a hallmark of our single-ply yarns, the loftiness of this Merino Fingering is particularly versatile, lending itself to be stitched up in a variety of gauges without losing definition or drape. Voracious Freia fans will be perhaps most excited by the upgraded yardage. The 100 gram “Shawl Balls” measure 430 yards and the Yarn Bombs are almost a 1/2 mile of yarn at about 860 yards, both sizes are perfect for single-skein projects. Our Minikins are 107 yards and are perfect for accessories, or use many together multi-colored larger projects. For the first time since debuting our very first “Flux” yarns, we’re mixing up the formula: previously available only in 50g balls, we’re now doubling the yardage for our Flux self-striping colors in the Merino Fingering to 100g balls. As with all untreated Merino yarns, handwashing is required to avoid felting.

We know our Yarn Bombs will blow you away as they did to us the first time we dyed them! Holding this behemoth in your hands will give you pause.. they are big suckers and so delicious!!  The 200g Yarn Bombs and 100g Merino Fingering Shawl Balls will have you covered!

Shaniko Merino Superwash

Our Shaniko Superwash takes softness and functionality to the next level. This yarn is an ethically raised and minimally processed US wool sourced entirely from sheep raised in Great Basin region of the US West by family ranches that have been raising sheep and taking care of the land for generations, satisfying my requirement of working with yarn offering a more positive impact. By supporting a yarn created with tight standards (traceability, land and animal husbandry audits) it raises the bar for other manufacturers to do the same. To top that, it’s 100% merino and frankly, ridiculously soft.

Solemate Socks – Being machine washable, this yarn is perfect for baby garments, but it really shines in our new SoleMate Sock sets. We’ve created packs of two identical balls of yarn dyed in our signature gradients to make a perfect matched pair of the dreamiest, softest socks imaginable. Each ball is 50 grams and about 228 yards – one ball per foot – and will make an average mid-calf sock. Note that there is no nylon in this yarn so you may want to knit a more reinforced heel or toe (there are many tutorials online for techniques to strengthen your socks).  Once you have these on your feet you’ll never want to take them off. Also, a warning: It will be hard to just knit one pair!

Sport and Worsted – Our Shaniko Merino Superwash Worsted and Sport are round, three-ply, 21 micron yarns with great stitch definition and are available in our full range of colorways. The nature of our gradient process combined with the superwash treatment gives the yarn a  distinguishing heathered appearance but retains a softness to the touch not often felt in heathered yarns. It’s a fantastic combination of slightly rustic with great sophistication. We offer the Worsted in large 150 gram balls giving you a whopping 330 yards in each ball. The Shaniko Sport is currently offered in our Minikin size, 25 gram balls and approx 76 yards, the perfect amount to add gradient detail to a larger project or combine a few for an adorable baby sweater.

Refined Merino/Silk Fingering, Sport, Worsted and Plush Super Bulky

Select retail stores also offer a custom milled, three-ply merino/silk blend in fingering, sport, worsted and a super bulky we call “Plush”. The first three yarns were a collaborative project between myself and Jeane deCoster of Elemental Affects. Together we created a beautiful, lofty, strong, lustrous and practically pill-free yarn! It is one of very few Merino/Silk blends that is truly made in the USA, in keeping with my goal to have a small footprint and source locally as much as feasible.

Fingering, Sport and Worsted A blend of 70% merino and 30% silk. This yarn is a smooth 3-ply with a luxurious soft hand. We specifically developed this custom yarn to be lofty without pilling. The silk adds just a hint of sheen. Available in worsted, sport and fingering weights. Made here in the USA from cruelty-free Merino. All current colorways available.

Plush Super Bulky – Continuing in the theme of our other Merino/Silk blends, this yarn is 85% US merino and 15% Mulberry silk. A luscious, plump and smooth 3-ply with a luxurious pillow-soft hand. We specifically developed this yarn to create the most luxurious super bulky you could find. We had no choice but to name it “Plush”! Made here in the USA from cruelty-free Merino. All current gradient colorways available. Make that warm winter hat you never want to take off with our Plush Super Bulky!
