WE're hiring!

General Studio Assistant
Assist owner and staff with daily duties which include rinsing yarn, skeining, and operating knitting and winding machines. The right candidate will be trained to dye yarns to our specifications. Job requires focus, physical endurance and patience. Must be able to comfortably lift 30 lbs and stand for long periods of time. Must be willing to 'muck in' as needed, dyeing yarn is physical and often messy work. High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience required.

COVID-19: This is not a customer-facing position, the studio is currently closed to the public. The studio is 3000 Sq Ft with easy social distancing, masks are required, sanitation protocols are in effect.

Studio Maintenance
  • Displaying in-stock yarns in an organized way
  • Keeping dye area clean, organized
  • Basic organization of shelving, coned yarns and finished products.
  • Daily cleaning tasks including cleaning of stoves, wire grids, sinks, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, etc.

Yarn Production/Inventory
  • Rinse, label and wind yarns, perform final quality checks for color, consistency and faults
  • Machine knitting (will train)
  • Establish familiarity with all colorways/bases
  • Assisting with dyeing process
Knowledge of knitting construction and basic understand of yarn weights very helpful. Must be flexible, open to re-direction mid-task, pace changes day-to-day. Job is highly seasonal with very busy times for about 3/4 of the year. Flexibility in work schedule is required including the ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as operational need may require. Kitchen experience would be helpful as our dye process is somewhat like cooking.

Desired Skills:
  • Highly organized, attention to detail is critical 
  • Must have a keen eye for color
  • Good communication (written and oral) skills, excellent math skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills, pleasant and professional telephone manner
  • Efficient
  • Self starter, problem solver
  • Able to prioritize and juggle multiple assignments, adaptability to redirection and team player attitude is critical.
  • Interest in and knowledge of fiber arts desirable 
  • Machine / hand knitting experience strongly preferred.

There is a large, friendly dog in the studio. 
Compensation based on experience. Required availability of up to 32 hours / week. Schedule is somewhat flexible and some weekend availability is expected. Studio is located at the west end of North Adams, MA.
