Echelon Shawl Pattern

I’ve been hankering for an long and slender triangular shawl to be worn loosely at the shoulders or wrapped without too much bulk around the neck. I was also looking to work in a simple textured pattern that wouldn’t detract from the gradient and would enhance the semi-solid. I also like the idea of something being a bit ‘off-kilter’. The Echelon shawl fills all those requirements. There is color play at the ends with layered gradients bordering a swath of a neutral semi-solid showing off a continuous repeating laddered step pattern. The scarf is worked from tip to tip, starting with only 7 sts, widening to about 130, then dropping back with a slow edge decrease to 7 sts before binding off. Worked primarily in garter stitch, the edges are stabilized with a rolled hem.
